Apocalypse World

Ülevaade

Apocalypse World is a post-apocalyptic tabletop roleplaying game by D. Vincent Baker and Meguey Baker, published by Lumpley Games. The first edition came out in 2010, and a second edition, funded on Kickstarter in 2016, updated some mechanics and playbooks and added Meguey Baker as co-designer. It won the 2010 Indie RPG Awards for Game of the Year, Best Support and Most Innovative Game, the 2011 Golden Geek RPG of the Year, the 2011 Lucca award for Best Role-Playing Game and a 2025 ALA Platinum Play Classics award. It introduced the Powered by the Apocalypse engine, which other designers have used to make more than four dozen licensed games, and critics credit its move-based action system as an important milestone in RPG design. The system is the origin of

Description

Players take on survivors of a collapsed world, each drawn from a playbook such as the Hardholder, Gunlugger, Battlebabe, Driver, Chopper, Hocus, Brainer, Savvyhead or Skinner. The Master of Ceremonies (MC), the game's name for its Game Master, does no pre-planning, and the setting is only implied until the players flesh it out during character creation, so each playbook adds details, such as the Hardholder ruling the local settlement. The game's themes are survival and relationships, and its tone is notably lethal. The game asks a table to play to find out what happens. The MC is also a player, so there are no fixed encounters, and the characters' relationships and the threats around them drive the story. It suits groups who want a tense, character-driven game and are happy with a GM who does not prepare a plot.

Let’s go on an adventure together! I'm looking for a free, cooperative, consent-based, story-focused TTRPG table. I enjoy character-driven games with party relationships, meaningful combat, exploration, mystery, downtime, and earned emotional moments. Ideal balance: about 40% roleplay, 20% combat, 40% exploration. I like sincere games with humor, but not constant bits, edgelord behavior, or main character syndrome. I fit best with players who share spotlight, cooperate, respect boundaries, and care about everyone’s character mattering. Consent and safety are important to me. Heavy themes, PvP, romance/flirting, sexual content, intense character conflict, or major effects on another PC should be discussed first. Lines and veils should be respected. I’m in Hawaiʻi Time / UTC-10. Weekends are best, and I prefer 2–3 hour sessions. I’m open to voice, PBP, or hybrid formats. Not a good fit for bigotry, disruptive rules-lawyering, non-cooperative play, unconsented PvP/romance/sexual content, trauma dumping, or using RPGs as therapy.

I’m an experienced GM, have run multiyear campaigns, and I regularly run games at local conventions. Preferred Systems: Mostly not D&D or similar traditional fantasy games.  Recent games include Agon, Unknown Armies, Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, Mothership, Pendragon, Mythic Bastionland, Alien, Blade Runner, Symbaroum, Starforged, Over the Edge, Swords of the Serpentine, and Paranoia.  But I generally enjoy learning new systems Preferred Playstyle: Narrative and investigation are my first choice. I like roleplaying heavy games where choices carry weight and the setting matters: occult conspiracy, espionage, horror, gritty sci-fi, mythic adventure. Combat is fine when it’s brief, tense, and consequential rather than a grind. Character death in earned circumstances is fine.  I'm open to romance in games if the table is bought in.  I don't need a lot of rules but I care about the rules we agree on being consistent and well understood.  I enjoy and run both traditional RPGs and GMless story games. Preferred Tone: Serious stakes with room for humor. Warm, character-driven humor or dark humor works for me; contempt-driven or goofy comedy doesn’t.   I prefer a grounded game but pulp is fine as long as we're all on the same page. I’m happy to run a one-shot when the regular GM needs a break.

I've been playing for a while, but am really into story games (PbtA, CfB, FitD) these days, but open to just about any TTRPG (mostly Indie, though). I play on the Open Hearth gaming community, and am open to other online games, but am hoping to meet others face to face as well. I'm based in Surrey, but can get up to London reasonably easily. I like embracing Improv, play-to-find-out principles, and prefer games that also do so.

I'm a voracious GM and player interested in trying anything once but usually come back for more on the narrative indie side of things. I like the intense, weird, horny, sad, and funny. I can enjoy nearly any kind of playstyle but prefer to know what we're trying to do so I can play into it and know when it's appropriate to bust out the antics.

Wizards of the Coast
Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is the original fantasy tabletop roleplaying game, designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and published by Tactical Studies Rules (TSR) in 1974 as a small boxed set of three booklets. It grew out of Arneson's Blackmoor game, a medieval variation on Dave Wesely's Braunstein wargames played with individual characters instead of armies, which he showed to Gygax. The two developed it as "The Fantasy Game", and Gygax did the final writing. The set was produced on a budget of $2,000, with $100 for artwork, and it was amateurish in production, assuming that players already knew wargaming. About 1,000 copies sold in its first year and about 3,000 in 1975. The set stayed in print until 1979, and it is often called Original D&D (OD&D). The system directly evolved from Chainmail, the miniatures wargame whose rules it used for combat. In 1977 TSR split the line into the lighter Basic set and the more structured Advanced Dungeons & Dragons First Edition (1977), which was later followed by Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Second Edition (1989). Description Players each take on a single adventurer, a fighting-man, magic-user or cleric, and explore dungeons and wilderness. One player takes the role of the Dungeon Master (DM), the referee and storyteller who runs the setting and non-player characters and decides outcomes using the rules and their own interpretation. The three booklets are Men & Magic (36 pages), Monsters & Treasure (40 pages) and The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures (36 pages). The game asks a table to fill in a lot of gaps. It assumes that players know miniatures wargaming, and its wargaming roots show in the attitude that players are not very attached to their characters. Character creation is fast, death is common and replacements join the party, so it suits groups who enjoy improvising rulings more than reading rules.
