Outgunned (2023)

Ülevaade

Outgunned is a cinematic action tabletop roleplaying game about heroes in the style of 1980s and 1990s action movies, designed by Riccardo Sirignano and Simone Formicola of the Italian studio Two Little Mice, with illustrations by Daniela Giubellini.  It was funded on Kickstarter in May 2023, reaching its goal within five minutes, and won two Silver ENNIE Awards in 2024 for Best Game and Product of the Year. It was originally published in Italian and English by Two Little Mice, and since December 2024 Free League Publishing has published it worldwide under its Free League Workshop label, which covers games it did not develop in-house. The line has grown through the standalone Outgunned Superheroes and the pulp spin-off Outgunned Adventure, all built on the same dice-pool system and compatible with one another. It is a loose evolution of the matching-dice system of Broken Compass, Two Little Mice's earlier game.

Description

Players take on Heroes, each combining a Role (such as Commando, Spy or Nobody) with a Trope, a behavioral archetype such as Diehard or Cheater.  The Game Master is called the Director, and a story is framed as a season of an action series. Missions run as heists, chases, brawls and showdowns with a villain, and the game's own advice for the Director is "tools, not rules". The game wants a table that enjoys big set pieces and dramatic failures. Heroes are tough, but they run on a finite supply of energy, and when it runs out the rules push the table towards a near-death moment rather than a quiet exit.

I’m an experienced GM, have run multiyear campaigns, and I regularly run games at local conventions. Preferred Systems: Mostly not D&D or similar traditional fantasy games.  Recent games include Agon, Unknown Armies, Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, Mothership, Pendragon, Mythic Bastionland, Alien, Blade Runner, Symbaroum, Starforged, Over the Edge, Swords of the Serpentine, and Paranoia.  But I generally enjoy learning new systems Preferred Playstyle: Narrative and investigation are my first choice. I like roleplaying heavy games where choices carry weight and the setting matters: occult conspiracy, espionage, horror, gritty sci-fi, mythic adventure. Combat is fine when it’s brief, tense, and consequential rather than a grind. Character death in earned circumstances is fine.  I'm open to romance in games if the table is bought in.  I don't need a lot of rules but I care about the rules we agree on being consistent and well understood.  I enjoy and run both traditional RPGs and GMless story games. Preferred Tone: Serious stakes with room for humor. Warm, character-driven humor or dark humor works for me; contempt-driven or goofy comedy doesn’t.   I prefer a grounded game but pulp is fine as long as we're all on the same page. I’m happy to run a one-shot when the regular GM needs a break.

Hi, I'm James from the UK. I've been playing and GMing tabletop RPGs for a long time, and I enjoy trying different systems rather than sticking with one game. As you can probably tell from my system list, my tastes are pretty broad! I've played or run everything from Savage Worlds and Dragonbane to Alien, The One Ring, Star Wars, PbtA games, Blades in the Dark and plenty of others. I'm especially interested in Outgunned right now. I enjoy games where the players actually roleplay with each other rather than everything going through the GM. I like character interaction, collaborative storytelling and giving everyone their chance in the spotlight. Combat is great too, especially when it's exciting and has some narrative weight behind it. As a GM, I'm not interested in trying to beat the players. I want to give them situations to interact with, see what they come up with and make their characters look cool while still giving them meaningful challenges. As a player, I bring the same attitude: work with the group, support other people's moments, and help move things forward. I'm UK-based and mainly play online using Foundry VTT and Discord. My availability varies depending on the game, but I'm generally looking for UK/European evening times. I'm also happy playing with people who are completely new to a system. I don't expect everyone to know every rule before we start, especially considering half the fun for me is discovering games I haven't played before.

Communication
Discord is a versatile, all-in-one communication platform that has become the "virtual table" where most modern TTRPG games actually happen. Originally launched in 2015 as a gaming-focused alternative to Skype and TeamSpeak, it has evolved into the industry-standard social layer for roleplaying. It provides the voice, video, and text infrastructure that bridges the gap between digital tools and the human connection of a live session. Description For tabletop players, Discord is the lobby, the game room, and the after-party. It allows groups to organize their lore in persistent text channels, coordinate schedules through integrated calendars, and play with low-latency voice and video. While it doesn’t provide a native "map and minis" grid, its ability to integrate "Bots" for dice rolling and its high-quality screen sharing make it the essential companion to every other tool in the digital RPG toolkit. System Overview & Key Features High-Fidelity Voice and Video Discord’s core is its "Go Live" technology, which allows GMs to stream their entire desktop or specific windows (like a VTT or a PDF) in real-time. With recent 2026 performance updates, the platform offers ultra-low latency audio, ensuring that the natural "flow" of roleplaying—interruptions, laughter, and dramatic pauses—feels organic. Text Channel Organization Servers allow GMs to create a structured home for their campaign. You can have separate channels for #lore-and-worldbuilding, #character-sheets, #scheduling, and even #in-character-roleplay where players can interact between weekly sessions. TTRPG Bot Ecosystem Discord’s greatest strength is its bots. Tools like Avrae (for D&D 5e), Dice Maiden, and Tupperbox (which lets players "speak" as their characters with different avatars) allow for a fully functional gaming experience directly within the chat interface. Built-in Soundboard and Music The integrated Soundboard and Activities features allow GMs to trigger environmental sound effects or share music directly into the voice channel. This creates an immersive atmosphere without the need for complex external audio routing. Threaded Conversations Threads allow players to dive deep into a specific tactical discussion or a piece of lore without cluttering the main chat channel. This is essential for long-running campaigns with complex plots and massive amounts of shared information. Cross-Platform Accessibility Whether a player is on a PC, a tablet, or a smartphone, they can stay connected to the game. This portability makes it the primary tool for "Play-by-Post" gaming, where a single story unfolds slowly through text over weeks or months. Subscription
Narrantium is a browser-based virtual tabletop built around the story rather than grids and tokens: the DM assembles branching scenes, maps, NPCs, music and combat encounters into a playable adventure using a visual quest builder, then runs it live. Players join the session from any browser with an invite link — no account, no install — so it works for remote tables and in person too, with the Player Screen cast to a TV. System-agnostic with solid D&D 5e support; only the DM needs a subscription, players always play free, and there's a free plan.
