Interviews
Welcome to Weird Games and Weirder People, my name is Diogo Nogueira and I will be your host in a series of interviews or chats I am having with creators and artists from the tabletop RPG scene, especially the weird “Indie” people, who creates more personal and, why not, weirder games, weirder, art, weirder fiction, and so on. That’s the stuff I crave, and I think many of us do as well. Weird Games and Weirder People is a podcast about role playing games and the weird wonderful people bedim them. This is the show where we welcome the weirdness both inside and outside each and everyone of us, and talk about how we harness its power to our creations. Drakar och Demoner

Drakar och Demoner

Swedish
Drakar och Demoner ("Dragons and Demons," commonly abbreviated DoD) is Sweden's first and longest-running fantasy tabletop RPG, originally published in 1982 by Äventyrsspel (later renamed Target Games) as a translation and adaptation of Chaosium's Basic Role-Playing system and its Magic World supplement. It occupies roughly the same cultural space in Sweden that Dungeons & Dragons holds in the US - not just a game many Swedish players grew up on, but effectively the game that introduced the country to the hobby before D&D had any real distribution there.  Over four decades and roughly a dozen editions, the game shifted from BRP-style percentile play to a d20-based roll-under "Expert" system, passed through several owners including RiotMinds in the 2000s, and since 2021 has belonged to Free League Publishing, who crowdfunded a reimagined 40th-anniversary edition in 2022 known internationally as Dragonbane. Designed by the team behind Mutant: Year Zero and Forbidden Lands, with art by Vaesen illustrator Johan Egerkrans, this modern edition is what's currently in print and most widely played today.

13th Age Second Edition (2025)

13th Age Second Edition (2025)

High-Fantasy

13th Age is a heroic fantasy tabletop roleplaying game built on the d20 rules tradition, published by Pelgrane Press. The first edition was released in August 2013 and designed by Rob Heinsoo, lead designer of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition, and Jonathan Tweet, lead designer of Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. It won the 2014 Silver ENnie Award for Best Rules. The Second Edition, funded on Kickstarter in May 2024 and released in 2025, splits the core rules into a Heroes' Handbook and a Gamemaster's Guide, reworks the nine core classes, monsters and magic items, and is designed to stay fully compatible with first edition books. The system is heavily inspired by Dungeons & Dragons 3.5, with several ideas borrowed from 4th Edition. Description Players take on heroes tied to the Icons, thirteen archetypal figures of power in a default setting that is meant to be reshaped at the table. The Game Master (GM) runs a story in which the characters' backgrounds and personal ties to the Icons drive the plot as much as the monsters do. Play favors big fights and big gestures over careful dungeon bookkeeping. The game asks a table to be loose with the setting. Players write their own history and invent a trait that has no rules attached, and the GM is expected to fold those into the story. It suits groups who like crunchy d20 combat but would rather invent than look things up.
